Safe Food for Canadians Regulations

May 8, 2015 By

On April 17, 2015, CFIA released the next draft of the text of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations. This is an extensive document with 165 pages (567 sections) as well as 23 documents that have been incorporated by reference into the regulations.

dicentra, as part of the I.E. Canada Food Committee, will be reviewing these draft regulations and coordinating member responses in preparation for a face to face meeting with CFIA which will be held during the week of May 25, 2015.  Since I.E. Canada  Food Committee members have had significant input into the generation of these regulations, CFIA considers members of this committee to be subject matter experts and have agreed to meet exclusively with this group ahead of the general consultation meetings with other stakeholders.

In preparation for the meeting with CFIA, a Food Committee meeting was held May 7th where sections of the regulations were identified that need additional clarity as well as  highlighting provisions of the regulations that  remain problematic. Suggestions for adjustment and change will be provided to CFIA.
