Reminder: VQIP Application Due Date for Importers is May 31, 2023

This is a reminder to all importers wishing to certify food products under the Voluntary Qualified Importer Program (VQIP) for fiscal year (FY) 2024 that the VQIP Application due date is May 31, 2023.

The VQIP is a voluntary, fee-based program developed by the FDA to help food importers expedite the process of reviewing and approving their products for importation into the United States.

Who is Eligible for the Voluntary Qualified Importer Program?

Importers who can demonstrate supplier compliance history may be eligible if they meet the following criteria:

  1. Have at least a three-year history of importing food into the U.S.
  2. No US Customs & Border Protection penalties, forfeitures, or sanctions. within three years for the product being imported.
  3. Follow mandatory FSVP & HACCP requirements.
  4. Have developed and implemented a Quality Assurance Program (QAP).
  5. A valid DUNS (Data Universal Numbering System) number.
  6. A valid facility certification for each foreign supplier of the imported product under VQIP.

How Do I Prepare for a VQIP Certification Audit?

Once an importer meets the above eligibility criteria and pays the user fee, they can achieve VQIP status by seeking an accredited certification body.
