As outlined in the transition provisions of the Natural Health Products Regulations, all Natural Health Products that are currently registered with a Drug Identification Number (DIN) must obtain a valid product licence and Natural Product Number (NPN) no later than December 31, 2009.

The Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) has determined which products currently registered as DINs require transition to the natural health product category. Any such products that have not obtained an NPN by December 31, 2009 will have their DINs cancelled and the products will be left unlicensed.

Although the current processing time for transitional DIN applications is 5-10 days, the NHPD strongly encourages companies that require DIN-transfers to submit their applications well ahead of December 31, 2009, so as to avoid an influx of applications as the deadline approaches.
